Southern Wayne snapped its 16 game losing streak on Friday night on the road at Goldsboro.
The Saints (1-1) hadn’t won against Goldsboro since 2016. It was the first time they won in the Cougar Den since 2011.
The Saints were led by Adam “Stone” Cain who put up three touchdowns in the 20-14 win. Cain, who stands 5-feet-8-inches and weighs 250 pounds, was the hardest man to stop from the Saints. It took two to three men to bring him down every time.
The Saints controlled the ball and only allowed the Cougars (1-2) to have five possessions all game. Goldsboro did not score on offense until there was a less than a minute left in the game. The other score came on a 90-yard Justin Taylor kickoff return.
The Saints look to win consecutive games for the first time since October 28, 2011 against North Lenoir on September 10. The Cougars will hope to get back to .500 against Rocky Mount at home September 10.
