Eastern Wayne used a big third quarter to beat in-county rival Southern Wayne, 40-22, on the road to open their season.
Senior runningback Dennislyn Swinson was a standout for the Warriors with a couple of rushing scores in the second half. Sophomore Nassir Jones put up a rushing score as well to go with an interception.
Eastern Wayne also got some juice from freshmen Rahkeem Faison and J. Q. Carr. Faison scored on a 45-yard scamper and Carr made plenty of tackles and forced a fumble.
Joshua Kearney, the Saints' quarterback, had two passing touchdowns in the loss.
