Princeton totaled nearly 400 yards on the ground and dominated 7 Mile Rival Rosewood with a 52-28 win Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (3-0) were led by the dynamic duo of senior running back Jaydon Brooks and junior back Christian Perris. Brooks carried the ball 26 times for 191 yards and three scores. Perris toted the luggage 16 times for 121 yards and three tubbies. According to MaxPreps, Brooks leads the state and is fourth in the nation in rushing yards. While Perris sits at ninth in the state in rushing yards.

“Good players make you look like you’re a good coach,” Princeton head coach Travis Gaster said about the duo. “Jaydon and Christian are unbelievable athletes that work their fannies off to carry the ball. It’s a honor for them to carry the ball for our offense.”

Brooks credited a lot of his success to his offensive line as they led the way for just him and Perris, but also cleared the way for a 60-yard Brandon Turner score.

“Magnificent! Magnificent!” Brooks exclaimed about the line. “They like my brothers so I know they got my back!”

Rosewood was also stifled by the Princeton defense. The Bulldogs did not allow a first down for the first four Rosewood drives. The Eagles (2-1) did not achieve a first down until after they were down 28-0 with four minutes left in the second quarter.

One of the big reasons was where the drives started. Princeton kicker McKinley Uzzell was lauded by Gaster for his performance as he was 7/7 on extra points, had a 30-yard field goal as the first half expired and kicked eight touchbacks. Rosewood started all but one drive from the 20-yard line.

“You got to add McKinley into our defense,” Gaster said. “When you’re starting on offense from the 20-yard-line, man, the percentage of you scoring is crazy low. For five years we’ve had to onside kick every time we scored, because we couldn’t kick the ball deep. McKinley giving us the ability to put people on the 20, where they have to move 80 yards into the end zone, that’s a big deal.”

Rosewood did have David Lamm score twice, along with Quay Butler who scored on a long run to start the second half. The Eagles will look to get back on track September 10 on the road against Whiteville.

The Bulldogs have a bye week before traveling to Richlands.
