Cleveland put their foot on J.H. Rose’s throat and never looked back as they got their second win of the season on the road, 55-14.
The matchup was highly anticipated because each team had highly touted senior runningbacks. The Rams’ (2-0) UNC commit Omarion Hampton won the matchup against the Rampants’ (0-2) NC State commit Michael Allen. Hampton performed better as he touched the ball 10 times for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Hampton has touched the ball 19 times this season and gone for 356 yards and seven touchdowns. Hampton has yet to play in the second half.
Senior quarterback for Cleveland, Skyler Locklear, was also stellar as he went 9-16 for 154 yards and a touchdown. Locklear also carried the ball seven times for 34 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams also got a look at the future as freshman Jackson Byrd came in relief for Locklear in the second half and went 2-2 for 39 yards and his first varsity touchdown.
Senior safety Keyshawn Monk also led the defense with two tackles and a 40-yard pick-6. Altogether, the Rams forced four turnovers. The boys in blue have forced seven turnovers in two games so far. The Rams will be back in action at home on September 3 versus D.H. Conley.
Rose will look to pick the pieces up on the road versus Northeastern on September 3.
